Region and Availability Zone considerations - Amazon Redshift
Services or capabilities described in Amazon Web Services documentation might vary by Region. To see the differences applicable to the China Regions, see Getting Started with Amazon Web Services in China (PDF).

Region and Availability Zone considerations

Amazon Redshift is available in several Amazon Regions. By default, Amazon Redshift provisions your cluster in a randomly selected Availability Zone (AZ) within the Amazon Region that you choose. All the cluster nodes are provisioned in the same Availability Zone.

You can optionally request a specific Availability Zone if Amazon Redshift is available in that zone. For example, if you already have an Amazon EC2 instance running in one Availability Zone, you might want to create your Amazon Redshift cluster in the same zone to reduce latency. On the other hand, you might want to choose another Availability Zone for higher availability. Amazon Redshift might not be available in all Availability Zones within an Amazon Region.

For a list of supported Amazon Regions where you can provision an Amazon Redshift cluster, see Amazon Redshift endpoints in the Amazon Web Services General Reference.
