<a name="directory-bucket-data-residency"></a>

A Local Zone is a type of Amazon Web Services infrastructure deployment that places select compute, storage, and other Amazon Web Services services near large populations and industry centers. To learn more about Local Zones, see [Amazon Local Zones](https://www.amazonaws.cn/about-aws/global-infrastructure/localzones/).

In Local Zones, you can create S3 directory buckets to store data in a specific data perimeter or metro area, which helps your data residency use cases. Amazon Web Services Beijing Local Zone is operated and provided by Sinnet that also operates and provides services of Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region. Directory buckets are not currently available in other [Amazon Local Zones locations](https://www.amazonaws.cn/about-aws/global-infrastructure/localzones/locations/).

You can use the Amazon Web Services Management Console, REST API, Amazon Command Line Interface (Amazon CLI), and Amazon SDKs in Local Zones.
