How upgrade billing works
When you upgrade your plan, the change takes effect immediately.
Note
The prices in the following examples are for illustration only. For current rates, see Amazon Quick plans and pricing.
Monthly plan upgrades
-
You receive a full credit for your current plan's monthly charge.
-
You are then billed the full rate of your new plan for the entire month.
-
You receive the full usage allocation of your new plan (agent hours and storage) right away for the entire billing cycle – not prorated for the remaining days.
Example: In this example, assume the Plus plan costs USD $25 per user per month, and you have 3 users (USD $75 per month). On August 16, you upgrade. You receive a USD $75 credit for the Plus charge, and are billed the full rate of your new plan for the entire month. Your usage allocation resets to the new plan's limits immediately.
First-month exception
If you upgrade during your first billing month, both the credit and the new charge are prorated. The proration is based on the days remaining in the month. Starting the following month, the standard full-credit/full-charge model applies.
Example: In this example, assume you subscribe to Plus on July 15, with a prorated charge of approximately USD $13.71 for 17 remaining days. On July 22, you upgrade. Your credit is USD $13.71 (the prorated Plus charge), and your new charge is prorated for the same 17-day period. Starting August 1, you are billed the full monthly rate.
Annual plan upgrades
If you are on an annual plan and upgrade mid-term:
-
You receive a credit for the unused portion of your annual subscription (the time remaining on your current plan).
-
You are charged the new plan's annual rate for the remaining term.
-
The time already used on your previous plan is not adjusted.
-
You receive the full usage allocation of your new plan immediately.
Example: In this example, assume you are on the annual Plus plan at USD $240 per year. On day 120 of your term (245 days remaining), you upgrade to a higher annual plan. You receive a credit of approximately USD $161.10 (245/365 of USD $240) for unused Plus time. You are charged the new plan's annual rate prorated for the remaining 245 days. Your usage allocation increases immediately.
Upgrading from the free trial
-
When you upgrade from the Free plan to a paid plan during your free trial, you immediately gain access to the full features and usage allocation of the paid plan.
-
Your free trial ends at the point of upgrade and cannot be resumed or restarted.
-
Your first charge is prorated for the remaining days in the month. Your next full billing cycle starts on the 1st of the following month.
Example: In this example, assume the Plus plan costs USD $25 per user per month. You start a free trial on July 1. On July 5, you upgrade to Plus. You are charged approximately USD $21.77 (USD $25 multiplied by 27 of 31 days remaining in July). You immediately receive the full Plus allocation. Your free trial cannot be reactivated. Starting August 1, you are billed the full monthly rate.
Downgrading your plan
How to downgrade
To downgrade from Plus or Max to Free:
-
Navigate to Plan and billing → Manage plan.
-
Under Free, choose Choose plan.
-
Follow the confirmation prompts.
How downgrade billing works
-
Downgrades take effect at the start of your next billing cycle, not immediately.
-
You continue to have access to your current plan's features and usage allocation through the end of your current billing cycle.
-
No refund is issued for the current billing period.
-
Starting the next billing cycle, you are billed at the lower plan's rate.
Example: You are on the Plus plan with a billing cycle of August 1–31. On August 10, you request a downgrade to Free. You keep Plus-level access through August 31. Starting September 1, your account reverts to the Free plan.
Annual plan downgrades
-
If you are on an annual plan, downgrades take effect at the end of your annual term.
-
Annual subscriptions cannot be canceled mid-term. There is no refund for the remaining period.
Important
Downgrading to the Free plan reduces your account to a single user and removes access to team collaboration features. All data and configurations are preserved, but only the account owner retains access.
