Note
Depending on your organization's settings, upgrades may process automatically or require administrator approval.
Overview
User-driven license upgrades enable Amazon Quick Suite users to request higher-tier licenses when they encounter features or reach usage limits that require additional capabilities. This self-service approach reduces friction in the user experience while maintaining administrative control over licensing decisions.
The upgrade process is designed to be contextual and non-disruptive. Users see upgrade prompts at the moment they need additional capabilities, allowing them to continue their work seamlessly after approval.
Available upgrade paths
Users can request upgrades along the following paths:
-
BI Reader to Professional: Enables advanced analytics, custom visualizations, and enhanced sharing capabilities.
-
Professional to Enterprise: Unlocks enterprise features including advanced security, governance, and administrative controls.
Each upgrade path provides immediate access to new features upon approval, with billing changes taking effect according to your organization's billing cycle.
Feature-based upgrades
When users attempt to access features not available in their current tier, Amazon Quick Suite presents contextual upgrade prompts. These prompts explain the benefits of the higher tier and guide users through the upgrade request process.
Common scenarios that trigger feature-based upgrade prompts include:
-
Accessing advanced visualization types
-
Attempting to use AI-powered features
-
Trying to create or modify certain dashboard elements
-
Accessing enterprise security or governance features
Threshold-based upgrades
Users receive upgrade prompts when they approach or exceed usage limits for their current license tier. These prompts appear in context, allowing users to upgrade and continue their work without interruption.
Threshold-based upgrades are triggered by:
-
Reaching data source connection limits
-
Exceeding dashboard or analysis creation limits
-
Approaching user or sharing limits
-
Hitting storage or compute usage thresholds
The system provides clear information about current usage, limits, and the benefits of upgrading to the next tier.
